Jake is a communications industry veteran with over 35 years of experience in network design, deployment and operations.
Jake is Founder and President of Gray Beards Consulting which provides technical and strategic consulting services to commercial and government entities regarding communications network design, deployment and operations. GBC also provides executive level coaching.
Jake is considered to be a futurist whose forte is to look over the horizon to position companies to be prepared to address industry opportunities in the provision of new technologies. He is requested to speak at numerous industry events each year and has appeared on the cover of several industry journals including the Wall Street Journal and the EE Times. Jake sits on company Boards of Directors and provides advice on strategic planning, mergers and acquisition, technology migration, executive coaching, establishment of advisory boards.
Jake is an advisor to the Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Industry Association and is co-chair of the Communications Research Division and co-chair of the CTO Council.
Jake is an advisor to the board of directors of the PCIA and is the new chairman of the PCIA Technology Council.
Prior to establishing GBC in 2009 Jake was Principal Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Bechtel Fellow with Bechtel Telecommunications where his teams participated in the design and development and deployment of over 110,000 cell sites for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and international companies. Jake and his team designed and executed the plan for restoration of communications in Baghdad, Iraq in 2003 during the Iraqi Freedom effort. Prior to Bechtel Jake spent nine years with Hughes Network Systems as AVP for Digital Cellular Systems where he designed and deployed advanced wireless communications technologies in Russia, the US and Indonesia.
Jake started his career in Transmission Engineering in 1978 with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in San Antonio, TX and participated in the design of the first cellular systems in Texas – Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.
Jake Graduated with a BS degree in Composite Science Education from the University of
Texas in Austin, TX.
